Ok, so that is a pretty complicated name for a C/C++ Compiler. It stands for DJ Delorie's GNU Programming Platform. GNU is the free software foundation. That means that this system is based on it and also free of charge. You should think of it not by its name but by the fact that you are getting an excellent compiler and programming system for DOS program development. I used this system to learn C/C++. You can too! But it is for much more than just learning. Any program can be written with it. Quake by ID software was written with DJGPP, yes that the real game!.

So, now you have a great C/C++ Compiler and what are you going to program? One great field to learn programming is games of course. But it would take an awful lot of work to get the basics working, color graphics, animation, music and sound effects. If you have this library for DJGPP above, you have a real headstart. An excellent chess program.! Based on my testing it is the strongest chess program available in a full version for free. The only problemm is that it is in German. Therefore I have translated the help file of the program into English. Install the program first. Then save the English-translated help file COMET.TXT into the same directory where you installed the program. Overwrite the file COMET.TXT that was there before. (Ok, I admit, it is a very poor translation because i used my translation software to speed the process. But it is enough to get you going.) Press "?" so see the English instructions from within the program..
