Ok, here it is! Now available for download:
Helmut Head's Construction Zone.

(See installation and playing instructions below.)

Overview:
The game is programmed for DOS but also runs fine in Win95/NT (Windows95 friendly). It is kind of a fun combination between Tetris and Mario Brothers. It combines coordination and planning with fast reaction.

Goal of the game:
Helmut Head (isn't he cute, artwork by my young brother Alex) has to take parts from the three bins above his head and stack them on top of each other so that it creates a stable construction. If parts are stacked so that they are too heavy on one side and not supported properly they will lose the balance and the construction comes crashing down.

Finishing a level:
To finish a level, the construction has to reach the top of the screen. Each level will be a bit more difficult, maybe less time or the parts are more difficult to arrange in balance.

Download / Installation Instructions:
1. Right-Click on this self-extracting GAME_ZIP.EXE file and save it in a temporary directory on your computer (e.g. to C:\TEMP\GAME_ZIP.EXE

2. Go to DOS and type these commands:
    C:
    CD\
    MD CONSTRCN

3. Execute the self-extracting GAME_ZIP.EXE file so that it creates its 4 files.
    C:\TEMP\GAME_ZIP.EXE

4. If you are running the game from DOS, you can start the game by typing CONSTRCN.EXE at the DOS prompt.

5. If you are using Windows 95 or Windows NT (the program has been tested with both and is written Windows95/NT friendly) perform these steps to create a shortcut for the program:
    EXIT        to return to Windows
    Right-Click on the Desktop
New    Shortcut                 and enter the following parameters:
    Command Line:     C:\CONSTRCN\CONSTRCN.EXE
    Name: Construction

Playing Instructions:

Press [F10] to see a demonstration of how to finish the first level level.

Use these keys to operate the game:
Left-arrow
Right-arrow
Move the hero left or right on the screen (one position at a time)
Down-arrow If the hero is under a bin, it collects the building part.
If the hero already has a building part and is on the ramp,
it drops the part on that position on the ramp.
[Space] Fire the ramp so that the part(s) on it move onto the
construction.
[F1] Show this help screen.
[Esc] Exit the game.
[F10] See what the solution to the current level is.
[F5] Change the background music.

Notes:
I plan to program a self-demo mode that demonstrates how to play the game and annotates the demonstration. I will post that new version on 27 Dec. For now, just press [F10] on a couple of levels to see how they are done. Then try to figure out for yourself how to solve each level. They get quite difficult. Alex designed a couple of levels that are so tough, even I as game programmer haven't figured out yet how to do them.

Enjoy the game! Let me know how high you get. There are over 40 levels now.
